Unique Wedding Venues In Central Victoria
Thoughtful, non-traditional spaces for relaxed weddings
If you’re looking for unique wedding venues in Central Victoria, you’re probably not after something overly traditional.
Less ballroom.
More space.
Somewhere that feels considered, personal, and a bit different.
I spend a lot of time working between Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges, and there’s a certain kind of wedding that just makes sense in this region. It’s not polished in a city way, it’s quieter than that. More grounded. More about the setting doing its thing.
Around Daylesford, Trentham, and the surrounding countryside, you’ll find a mix of old properties, design-led spaces, and venues that don’t feel like they’re trying too hard. Places that you can settle in to, rather than feeling like you’re being moved through a schedule.
Here are a few that stand out.
Butterland - Newstead
Butterland
A creative, design-led space.
Butterland has a very distinct feel—creative, slightly unconventional, and not overly polished.
It’s the kind of space that works well if you want your wedding to feel different from the start. Less traditional structure, more room to shape the day around what matters to you.
It suits couples planning something more relaxed and expressive, where the focus is on atmosphere rather than formality. Whether it post-industrial interior with original tiles or streaming with natural light. Or the picturesque surrounding grounds with matching veggie patch that draws you to Butterland. It’s the ultimate choice for quirky, down to earth weddings that also value style and charm.
Scrub Hill - Newlyn North
Scrub Hill
Minimal, open, and easy to settle into.
Scrub Hill is one of the most sought-after Central Victoria wedding venues for a reason. Whether imagining you and your people cosy-ing up within the walls of a 150-year-old Bluestone Church, or in the glasshouse marquee set on 1 acre of lawns surrounded by beautiful countryside, there is truly something for everyone across all seasons at Scrub Hill. Set in Newlyn, just a 15 minute drive from Daylesford, you are spoilt for choice with options such as The Bluestone Church, The Sunday School, The Himalayan Tree Lawn, The Marquee, and The Elm Forest.
Owners Jente and Emely came to the Hepburn Shire region with a wealth of hospitality experience in some of Melbourne’s finest venues. They chose Scrub Hill as the place where they wish to help people create unique, fun, and memorable events with fine attention to detail. They are warm, and welcoming, and I have no doubt you would feel well taken care of while planning a day curated to your vision.
The Estate Trentham
THE ESTATE TRENTHAM
Been considering an elopement or micro wedding? The Estate Trentham is a boutique accommodation designed by Lydna Gardener. If you are obsessed with interior design, this could be your top pick. The property has its own light and airy barn as well as the established garden as a ceremony choice. Barn hire is in conjunction with two nights of accommodation, so you know you’ll be getting some beautiful images while you get ready the morning of. Inspired by Scandinavian interiors, fresh white walls, dark floors and airy rooms, complemented by natural wood furniture, a mix of old and new curated collections from European flea markets to local country finds. Suited for up to 60 people seated or stand-up cocktail event.
The Convent Daylesford
THE CONVENT DAYLESFORD
We can’t talk about unique wedding venues in Central Vic without mentioning The Convent, Daylesford’s most iconic building. Nestled on the crest of Wombat Hill, overlooking Daylesford, this 19th century old building was a convent and boarding school for almost 90 years. Now, under one magnificently restored roof you will discover a rich and beautiful tapestry of experiences, one of which being the gallery which has been described as the most beautiful in Australia.
The Convent can hold up to 120 guests and has an abundance of choices for your ceremony. Whether it be the old chapel, the atrium, or within its stunning grounds. The convent would be a spectacular choice if you value buildings steeped with history and have a love for art and culture.

Boomtown Wine - Castlemaine
BOOMTOWN WINE
Laid-back winery with a social feel.
Cool Castlemaine venue Boomtown Wine is perfect for wine lovers and foodies alike… Boomtown is driven by a collective philosophy of making small batches, honest wines, and sourcing fruit from great Central Victorian sites. It’s an industrial venue which again leaves things open for you to inject your personal style and would make an incredible backdrop to any relaxed, contemporary affair. You could even opt to have a short and sweet ceremony across the road in the Castlemaine Botanical Gardens before hopping over for a rustic feast and epic party.
This kind of venue works well if you’re planning:
– a more casual wedding
– a strong focus on food and drink
– something that feels like a long lunch or extended celebration
Little Church Spring Hill
LITTLE CHURCH SPRING HILL
Small, intimate, and quietly beautiful. Just one hour's drive from Melbourne’s CBD, you can be in this quiet tranquil hamlet in the Macedon Ranges of Victoria. The cutest church you may have ever seen, The Little Church is an original white timber weatherboard church built on the site in Spring Hill in 1890. Surrounded by ancient gum trees and overlooking the surrounding farmland and distant hills, the venue is secluded and peaceful.
The property has a fully sustainable reception pavilion, a covered outdoor room with everything needed to hold an event after the ceremony and can hold up to 80 guests. If you are after a quaint country blank canvas that you can make your own, The Little Church is a dream… They even have their own peony farm down the road if you need some inspiratoion for florals.
What makes a wedding venue “unique” in Central Victoria?
A lot of the best Central Victoria wedding venues have a few things in common:
– they’re not overly styled or overproduced
– they allow flexibility in how the day unfolds
– they feel connected to the landscape
– they work well for smaller, more personal weddings
It’s less about creating a big event, and more about creating something that feels right.
Choosing the right Central Victoria wedding venue
If you’re looking at unique wedding venues in Central Victoria,it’s worth thinking beyond just how a space looks.
Does the space support the kind of energy you want for the day?
Will your guests feel comfortable settling in?
Does the space allow the day to flow naturally, without constant transitions?
The right venue quietly supports the way you want the day to unfold, without needing to shape it too heavily.
Photographing Central Victoria weddings on film
I photograph weddings on 35mm and medium format film, and this region really suits that approach.
The light is softer. The colours are more muted. The landscapes don’t need much added.
Film also allows for a more considered approach..
It allows space for moments to happen naturally, without too much direction or interruption—which tends to align with the kinds of weddings people are having here.
One last great thing about country wedding venues is the town they’re based in will also usually have an array of cute and quirky accommodations to stay in. Why not make a long weekend out of it? Recovery day down the pub?
